My first weeks in Norway (Jondal)
A few weeks ago I came back to Norway, and I can’t be more thrilled. I live in Jondal now, an area close to Folgefonna national park, where the Folgefonna glacier is located. I was first a bit hesistant as I was so in love with the North, and Jondal is way more south in Norway. However, I learned quickly that I have to experience and appreciate every area as it is. I cannot compare the North to the area I am in now, so I shouldn’t do that. I currently work for the booking office of Folgefonni glacier team, and I can join the guides on their glacier hikes on my day off (also to collect data for my master thesis). I am very thankful with this situation, because I can work and safe some money while also spending some time on my studies.
I was just on a walk in the village, following the river alongside the mountains, and every second of this walk I kept thinking: Norway is so incredible . The rough nature is really unparalleled. Everywhere I go I am surrounded by mountains and trees , and there is a certain energy that I am unable to explain. Every time I am in Norway I feel like I am living how I was supposed to live – close to nature. If you would have told me ten years ago that I would spend most of my days in Norway, in isolated places, with few people, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. This is not something I have envisioned for myself from the start. I was brought up close to nature, but as soon as I went to highschool I almost couldn’t care less about spending most of my days in nature. This became something on the background, something that was not on my mind. But oh how times have changed! And I am forever grateful for that. I want to explore a bit more, and hopefully in a few years I will receive keys for a small cabin in the North. What an incredible day this will be… I hope I am going to be here to exprience that.
